its about medium length just below my shoulders, naturally straight and layered, with a side fringe...

and what colours if yes? i go more for subtlety..

I need to tell you to embrace what you have and work it. Highlights are all well and good but everybody does it. I have brown/black hair and have always wanted to be lighter, but now I'm at the stage where my hair stands out cause it's natural.

Why not play around with the cut of your hair, a full fringe from quite far back of the hairline would look good with dark straight hair and darken the eyes, liquid liner was made for us brunettes.

If you really want highlights I would go for a golden chestnut, it has warm tones in it but don't go for the typical highlighting process, in salons they can take random pieces of hair so it doesn't look like a zebra crossing.

I hope you get what you want but still think you were blessed with straight dark hair, and blonde's don't have more fun cause the majority spend there life in salons making it look natural lol :)

a good thing about highlights is..you cna make them fat,,,thin.. only a few highlights or a head full.. and they have differant shades for the hair colors as well to emphasize the darker color.. good luck and have fun

If you go for highlights, just make sure they look nearly natural! Just go a little red or a little blonde. The worst thing is when there are clearly defined sections that are light and that are dark. It is the contrast that is the most important. Highlights can really help lighten your look. Make sure your skin colour is compatible. If you have very brown skin then highlights will not look so good. But if you have light skin it can really help you look more healthy... Hope this helps

Subltle highlights, 2 to 3 shades lighter than your natural hair color otherwise dark brown hair with bad roots look bad. go with a light brown or a shine like from clariol. Whatever you do don't do a blond. tried it. done it. cried over it.

I think some lighter brown highlights and or a shade of red will look nice in your hair. When you go to the hairdressers they should show you a colour chart of ones that will suit you and you can choose.

There is a way for you to have natural looking light brown highlights. This is done best by a hairdresser, using professional products.

This is how I handle the problem. It is a two-step process.

#1. I use a mild bleach to highlight dark hair bringing it up to a yellow gold color. Then I dry the hair, trying not to look at it because the highlights are bright gold at that time!

#2.I apply a semi-permanent hair color glosser such as Redken Shades EQ all over the hair, choosing a light ash brown. I process it according to the directions. The hair color will tone down the gold in the highlights but won閳ユ獩 affect the rest of the hair.

#3.The toner will usually not fade but if after some shampooing or time in the sun, the gold starts to return, I suggest using a color pigmented shampoo in an ash tone, or reapplying the hair color glosser.

#4.The result is beautiful, shiny dark hair with nice light brown highlights. And no gold or red tones! (unless you want something more exotic, or for a more special occasion).
