I'm in charge of costumes in my high school's fall play. Don't ask what play it is - it was written by students in my school. Anyways, the play takes place in modern times. Yeah, like 2007. I was wondering if some of you could help me out by making some outfits you think the characters would wear. This would help me out a lot and give me some ideas for what to look for when I shop for the costumes. I'm new to this. = ] Thanks so much!
Here are the six main characters:
Danielle - She is pretty, popular, and has a lot of friends. Her parents, both succesfull in law practices, are well off. She lives in a three story house with eight bedrooms. She isn't neccesarily spoiled, she just is good at everything she puts her mind to. Danielle gets average grades in school. She is a hard worker, though she loves to have fun. The girl playing Danielle is slim with medium-length dark brown curly hair and brown eyes. Danielle is fourteen years old.

OK, Danielle needs to dress extremely trendy, or maybe in a cheerleader costume. She should carry a Louis Vuitton or Prada purse (don't worry, you can get knock-offs for cheap) and maybe a lot of brand-names like Hollister or Aeropostale, as that's what the trendy girls seem to be wearing these days. Her brother should just wear something sort of non-descript, like khakis and a Polo shirt- kind of trendy but also allowing him to sort of blend into the background, as it sounds like his character does. The really popular guy (Ethan?) should look like a bit of a jock- maybe wearing a school letter jacket or a football jersey or something like that. His friend Zack sounds like he should either dress emo (because he's a guitarist and all) or just in a lot of black, with T-shirts of famous bands like Fall Out Boy or maybe Pink Floyd or something like that. The "creative" girl can dress emo too, but I see her more as a hippie type, wearing flowy blouses and jeans she's decorated herself, or maybe some long skirts with sandals. The least popular girl sounds like sort of a bookworm, so she should wear maybe a turtleneck and a kind of boring skirt that hits her knees, and maybe some loafers. And she should wear glasses. That sounds like a fun play. Just have fun with it, and encourage the actors to bring in any clothes they might own which could work with their character.

Simple, Danielle should wear plaid. or a button up w/slacks and a cardigan ties around her neck. And glasses! She is smart so make her look like it. Her brother should wear baggy pants and a band t-shirt, make him sort of grungy. Well Ethan should wear Abercrombie. Check out the styles on that New MTV show. Not Laguna Beach but the other one. Good Luck! OKOK, Here is the rest, Kim should dress reserved as well, and Ethan's friend should dress like ethan but not so flashy. In most play always make the main characters the Most Flashy and eye grabbing, Like in movies all bad guys wear black, and the nerdy girl well make her pretty nerdy with a back pack full of books on her back and pig tails and big black glasses. hope this helps.

Danielle and Mitchell I would put in co-ordinating color outfits. Not matching, but complimenting colors to emphasize that they are twins. They should have the nicest looking clothes of the cast. Hers should be fit and his a bit too small to play up the gangly. Also the colors should compliment her more than him to show who is more popular. Browns, oranges, reds, Autumn colors...
Ethan should be in "All-American" garb. Sneakers, Blue jeans, plain White tee shirt, and Red varsity jacket. Think Joe Cool.
Chelsea should be 'Wal-Mart Chic'. She tries to dress nice like Danielle, but doesn't have the money to buy the name stuff. Lighter color/pastels that don't look bad but don't compliment her.
Zack should be vintage rocker. Canvas sneakers (All stars, vans, etc...), faded or extra dark jeans, and a nice faded old rock tee shirt (Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc...). Maybe a leather jacket if you can swing it.
Kim should be function over form in whatever you put her in. More comfortable than fashionable. And muted colors. Nothing bright or with patterns.

Here's the best way to do it.......I'm sure u will see your every character in these teen....don't buy them the shoes.....and they also can wear their own jeans,if their personality fits the character.....I'm sure they would also feel more confortable in their own......u could buy the girls a preppy dress....for danniele's friend,buy t-shirt(s), simple,or cardigans,something simple....for Ethan u could buy one of those cheap and big watches......u should ask the actors too,to see what they already have......good luck

haha anyway. She seems kind of like the "sharpay" of high school musical. So maybe she should wear really bright, fashionable outfits. something that would get her noticed in high school, because shes popular.

danielle - i think you should dress danielle very trendy since she is the most popular girl at her school. she could wear anything from the junior's section from nordstrom or the newest items from abercrombie %26amp; fitch and hollisterco.

mitchell - since mitchell is twins with danielle i think both of their style should be simmilar. mitchell could also be wearing a%26amp;F and hollister but like instead of looking all jockish he could go for a more prepppy look, maybe jeans and one of those button down shirts. but like not with a tie.

chelsea - the description you gave of chelsea reminds me of like an innocent little girl. i think she should have a sense of style but not like so high fashion. i dont think walmart is quite that tho. for some reason i feel like danielle wouldn't want to hang out with a girl who only shops at walmart. since chelsea isnt so rich, she could be that bargain shopper who makes her own clothes or shops at cool vintage stores or the clearance section of A%26amp;F or hco. she reminds me of a girl who just wears what shes comfortable in even if its just tshirt and jeans.

zack - zack plays the guitar so when i think of someone who plays the guitar, i think of someone who wears band tshirts and converse. he doesn't necessarily have to wear skinyn jeans but it would loook cool if he did.
