I want a haircut and highlights but i dont want it.. im confused?!?!?

i have light brown hair and side bangs and medium length with light light brown highlights.. i want blonde highlights and a layered haircut but if i get those layered haircuts where its short at the top and gradually becomes longer, then im afriad what it would look like if i let it grow and the short hairs at the top might look retarded as like.. 1 year passes or something but i dont know what to do. plus i have dry hair since im in waterpolo and i go in the pool practically everyday. so i dont wanna damage it. advice?

Having highlights require a lot of maintenance/upkeep unless you want your hair to look silly. It will be noticeable when they start to grow in, and if you don't have the means or the money to keep up with them then it will be very noticeable at your roots when they grown out (typically every 4-6 weeks you'll need to retouch). If your hair is already dry being in chlorine at the pool, then you are only going to damage your hair even further with bleaching the hair to blonde. You need to think about whether you have the money to retouch pretty often, and whether or not you want to damage your hair even further from the chlorine. Which brings me to another point, chlorine does affect bleached blonde hair if you don't wash it out straight away and clean it properly. Something you might want to think about if you highlight!

i wouldnt hilight if you are in a pool often. Hilighthing is already bad and chlorine can turn it brassy and dry it out and damage it even more. i wouldnt go with the too choppy look with the layers, but longer layers look good.

her hair is cute. its layered slightly, but not too much.

my daughter had dark brown curly hair. She was captain of the swim team and alternated highlights. She got red, then blond and it was hardly noticeable, she just had pretty hair. She used "Swimmer's Conditioner". Her hair was all one length and her highlights were subtle. She could grow it out and no one noticed.

If you want highlights, make it a shade different. Use a swimmer conditioner. If your highlights are very subtle, it wont show when it grows out.

If you are at the pool alot then I would skip the highlights...don't want them turning green or other wierd shades or orange.

Look on I-villiage ( used to be one there) or any of the online hairstyle sites that let you upload a picture and kind of try out the different hairstyles.

Make sure it is one you can manage after you pull the cap off you r head at the pool..you should be wearing one really....sounds corney but it can help with the drying out of the hair if you keep it covered....find a cute one!
